We are all currently going through difficult times as individuals, businesses, countries. The current situation affects us all in one way or another, and it is always good to see people unite and try to help one another. You might also be wondering what you can do to help, even while social distancing and sheltering in place.
In times like these, it is crucial that people stay well informed. Unfortunately, there is plenty of misinformation out there. The World Health Organization is calling it an “infodemic”.
Organisations such as the WHO constantly provide updated information as new findings become available, and others such as Translators without Borders (TWB) are working with them to help fight the information crisis.
TWB is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to create a world where knowledge knows no language barriers. They offer language support in order to provide people access to critical information in a language they understand and translates millions of words per year with the help of thousands of volunteer translators all over the world.
This NGO is also helping tackle the COVID-19 infodemic by giving community organisations open access to its translation resources through the COVID-19 Community Translation Program, translating verified prevention and awareness information in partnership with international health agencies, monitoring social media content, and producing a multilingual glossary, for example.
If you would like to make a donation, volunteer or become a partner, you can find more information on TWB and their COVID-19 response here.
